Millions upon millions of words have been written concerning the right way to live a Christian lifestyle. In truth, everything you need is within the New Testament, provided you know the lessons you are meant to pull out. Here are three of the most important of those lessons, and how they’ll turn you into a better Christian.
Look For Opportunities
Far too often, Christians retreat into themselves. Churches, instead of being gathering places for the sick and broken, become insular clubs and echo chambers. If you want to live a real Christian life, then you need to get out into the world and witness for Jesus.
Doing this is easier than you think, and only requires a slight chance in mindset. There is opportunity to perform good works all around you. The problem is that you’ve been missing them. When looking at and listening to others, make a conscious effort to think of how Jesus would handle your situation.
You’ll find that more often than not you’re going to be offering a kind word or a helping hand to a situation that you would have ignored in the past. Don’t fight it, this is what God made you for.
Bring People Together
Christians who follow their one true message are great unifiers. God does not want to see any of his children cast out of His kingdom. He strives and intends to save every soul that he can.
You’re going to play a big part in that, if you live life the way that you’re supposed to. Don’t find reasons to hate or ignore people. Don’t shun those who don’t see things the way that you do. Treat everyone with respect, and try to love them. You’ll find inner peace this way, and will win over many more souls than you could have expected otherwise.
Show People, Don’t Tell
The biggest problem with the Christian faith in today’s day and age is that too many are trying to tell people how to live their lives, instead of leading by example. Matthew 5:16 addresses this directly: you should strive to lead by example.
Your words can be muddled. You can give a message from the devil while thinking that you are giving a message from God. The mouth is one of the greatest enemies of a good Christian, don’t let it beat you. Your actions, if they are good, will speak for themselves.
Living a good Christian life can seem like a daunting task. If you come at this from the right direction though, then you already have all of the tools that you need to succeed. God does not want you to suffer when you live for Him. He wants you to experience the same joy that he does in seeing you do the right thing.
Take some time today and meditate. Listen for that voice inside of you. You know of it as your conscience, but it is also God trying to speak into you. Listen, and you’ll be on the way to living the life that was designed for you at the beginning of time.
